Overview

In order to take advantage of the desired structure sync between your story map and Jira project you must start with setting up Jira integration for your board.

Top level structure sync

By selecting the top level structure sync option you will link top level cards from the story map to your Jira epics. This allows you to push top level cards from the story map to Jira as an epic. You can also import Jira epics to the story map and they will be placed on the top level of your story map.

In this case the second level cards of your story map are not going to be synced and they can be used as placeholders or cards holding additional information on the story map for example user steps in the user journey.

Third level cards on the story map are usually user stories and they are linked to your epics. You can also create issues on the third level of the story map and push them to Jira as Story, Task, Bug or Subtask. It is also possible to import Story, Task, Bug or Subtask from Jira to the third level of your story map.

Second level structure sync

By selecting the second level structure sync option you will link second level cards from the story map to your Jira epics. This allows you to push second level cards from the story map to Jira as an epic. You can also import Jira epics to the story map and they will be placed on the second level of your story map.

In this case the top level cards of your story map are not going to be synced and they can be used as placeholders or cards holding additional information on the story map for example user goal in the user journey or grouping themes.

Third level cards on the story map are usually user stories and they are linked to your epics. You can also create issues on the third level of the story map and push them to Jira as Story, Task, Bug or Subtask. It is also possible to import Story, Task, Bug or Subtask from Jira to the third level of your story map.

Simple integration

In this case only the third level cards from the story map will be synchronized with Jira without any epic link. You will be able to push cards from the story map to Jira or import from Jira to the story map.
