Overview

You can import existing backlog items into your story map in seconds from a Microsoft Excel file. This allows you to import new items and visualize them on a story map to organize and improve your product backlog.

What is the supported format

StoriesOnBoard has its own structure when it comes to import and export of a story map.

How to import backlog items from Excel

  1. Open the story map

  2. Visit the "Settings" menu

  3. Select "Import Excel to story map"

  4. Upload your Excel file

  5. Click "Import"

Step-by-step guides to import new backlog items from Excel into your story map

Select "Settings" and proceed with "Import Excel to story map" option.


Make sure you have the right structure that StoriesOnBoard supports and upload your Excel file.


Upon successful upload the content will be displayed. Missing information will be pointed our with exclamation mark. Hover it to access more details. Then proceed with "Import".


New backbone items will be added on the top of your story map and user stories will be placed under the "Unscheduled cards" area. If your backlog item is associated with an existing backbone item, it will be placed underneath as following.


Additional information

What fields are processed during the import:

  • activity title

  • task title

  • subtask title

  • subtask description

All subtasks will be imported into the Unscheduled Cards are of your story map.

Each new imported item will get a card annotation with the date of import.
