Integrating a story map with a project in Pivotal Tracker allows teams to plan more effectively, utilizing the visual power of story mapping to achieve transparency and shared understanding among stakeholders. Bring the team around to the story map to see the big picture and take advantage of real-time and bidirectional sync with Pivotal Tracker to keep everyone up to date at all time. The integration makes it possible to plan releases on the story map and push cards to Pivotal Tracker for execution. How to setup integration with Pivotal Tracker

  1. Open the story map

  2. Go to “Integration settings“

  3. Select “Tool integration with Pivotal Tracker”

  4. Fill “Pivotal Tracker API token“ or email address and passwords

  5. Click on “Connect”

  6. Select your project

  7. Adjust setting

  8. Click on “Save”

Step-by-step guide to link a story map to a Pivotal Tracker project

Open the story map you want to connect to a Pivotal Tracker project and select “Integration settings”.

Select Pivotal Tracker as a tool to integrate with and fill the Pivotal Tracker API token or email address and password.

Now that you connected to Pivotal Tracker, the next steps is to select the project you want to link your story map. Then proceed with “Link project”.

After selecting the right project, you can adjust integration settings and then click on “Save”.

Integration settings for Pivotal Tracker

Once you successfully connected to your Pivotal Tracker instance, you will be able to access Integration Settings for Pivotal Tracker as following:

Real-time synchronization

Cards from StoriesOnBoard will be synchronized with Pivotal Tracker in real-time and bidirectional if you enable the following options:

  • Synchronize name changes (card title)

  • Synchronize description changes

  • Synchronize estimation changes

Status changes will be synced between StoriesOnBoard and Pivotal Tracker.

Once you connect the story map map with the Pivotal Tracker project by saving the settings, a confirmation will be asked, because after establishing the connection to a Pivotal Tracker project, the cards’ statuses will be set by the connected Pivotal Tracker stories statues. This means you won’t be able to change them on the story map itself - just from Pivotal Tracker and connected cards' statuses will be updated in real-time on the story map as well.

⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️
Please note once you established the connection between StoriesOnBoard and Pivotal Tracker, card statuses will be only editable from Pivotal Tracker. This is a built in security to allow teams to execute the project without any interruption. To modify linked card statuses simply change card status in Pivotal Tracker. Thanks to the status mapping, that will be applied automatically on the story map as well according to your settings.

Import setting

By allowing editors to import cards from Pivotal Tracker a new menu appears on the board where non-admin collaborators can also import new cards from Pivotal Tracker.
